As we turned into a small lane where the signage directed us, a giant white rabbit in a novel form awaited on a green lawn to greet all upon entering So Sofitel Hua Hin. Proceeding inside, an elegant and enormous white marble stairway stands bold, alluring us to wonder what’s beyond there.
Each step we took gradually revealed the stylish open-air lobby. Under the ‘Evolution of Life’ theme, animal statues playfully stand in the pond to great all passers-by. As the staff eagerly served us chilled welcome drinks from bright red polka dot teapots, I felt as if I was in the middle of the Unbirthday Party scene from ‘Alice in Wonderland’!
Developed by the renowned Donatien Carratier, the accommodation space is creatively put into two main whimsical categories, So Nature and So Arty. So Nature rooms are a mix of simple natural elements and lavish French refinement. On a different vibe, So Arty blends the sophistication of the past with a chic and contemporary design.
Gastronomy at So Sofitel Hua Hin is one of the highlights. White Oven sits at the edge of So Pool and serves authentic Thai cuisine in a casual chic ambience. Guests can choose to dine in the interior or on the outdoor patio. Many of the cooking stations at White Oven are open kitchen and the place gets sassier during the breakfast buffet with numerous choices to opt for.
At dusk, the rooftop of White Oven features Hi-So – the panoramic bar where cocktails crafted by a master mixologist are served. Only steps from the beach itself, Beach Society is a divine place to dine with its a la carte menu, as well as seafood BBQs. My advice is not to miss the pizza larb seafood.
Not only does So Sofitel Hua Hin bear superb service and luxury accommodation, the So Spa is another spot that had my attention and I would surely return for it. Photographs of humans in movement by Lois Greenfield are printed on transparent curtains. Huge cocoons looked so comfortable to lie in, while the posh treatment rooms are equally tempting. I would have to say that So Spa is another solemn world of its own in the heart of So Sofitel Hua Hin.
