In today’s digital age, online media keep us up to date with other peoples’ lives at a tap of a finger: where our favourite band is playing, what our friend is eating, or even how a stray cat is doing. It could be so distracting from our own life that we neglect to prioritize our own desires and actions.
As genius Albert Einstein said: ‘Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.’ We require private, peaceful and natural space for contemplation and, luckily, there is Little Tree Garden.
Just an hour’s drive from Bangkok, resting by the Tha Chin River, there is an English countryside-style cottage with a lush garden that welcomes all visitors and passers-by who wish to retreat from their busy routines. You can arrive either by road or by river and the spacious garden, populated with many trees, will greet you first. An idyllic setting with a walking path is surrounded by mature trees and assorted smaller bushes. The small wood pier by the river offers a tranquil spot for relaxation and could pull you into a meditative state for self-reflection. For those who share an interest in gardening there is an exquisite selection of beautiful plants and decorative items on sale, with helpful staff around to give advice.
After spending some time exploring the smaller natural paths, take a break and sample some of the homemade dishes. You have the choice of sitting at one of the outdoor tables under verdant trees or else in the glasshouse with its vintage décor. Beginning with a fresh salad is a good idea, and recommended is the ‘Spicy Mackerel Salad with Authentic Thai Spices.’
Also recommended are the single-dish ‘Basil Fried Rice’ and ‘Fried Noodles.’ Wrap up your garden lunch with memorable homemade desserts such as Macadamia Butterscotch, Panna Cotta with Strawberry Sauce, or else Scones served with a selection of teas or a signature ‘Frozen Rose Lychee.’
On weekends, Little Tree Garden also hosts a weekend market with a nature-friendly theme. Activities include painting classes using organic paint, handicraft workshops and stalls selling adorable handicrafts. Nature lovers are drawn together here to share enjoyable moments, make new friends and join esteem-boosting activities that let them discover what they are capable of, which is a more fulfilling experience than sending a ‘friend request’ online and waiting for ‘approval’.
Little Tree Garden is thus more than a garden or restaurant outside the city. It is a place to reconnect with nature, for opening up your mind, and for social interaction with like-minded others. It rests serenely by the river, waiting to welcome you, every Tuesday to Sunday during 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
