In 2013, Sansiri announced a policy against child labour in its construction sites. As a result, all construction partners signed the annex attached to construction contracts in support of the end of all forms of child labour relevant to the business. If any of its partners is found violating the contract, Sansiri reserves the right to terminate the contract under any circumstance. This condition applies to Sansiri projects in every location such as Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Songkhla, Udonthani, Khon Kaen, Chiang Mai, Korat, and Nonthaburi.
Children’s Rights and Sansiri’s Operational Role
Sansiri, UNICEF and our business partners in construction have come together to put an end to the use of child labour, with the establishment of Child-Friendly Spaces. These spaces serve as a learning environment for kids, focusing on essential skills and initial development, and create a safe zone wherein children can avoid accidents and other dangers of the construction site.
Right to Public Health Services and Vaccination
Sansiri, UNICEF Thailand, WHO Thailand and the Ministry of Public Health are currently developing a model to allow alien children access to vaccines, while cooperating with local health centres to help vaccinate children at construction sites.
Creating Opportunity to Access Education
In connection with the Safe Zone for Kids Project, Sansiri collaborated with Kid’s Home Foundation to send more than 40 children from Sansiri’s dcondo Sign Chiangmai construction site to study at Wat Jedyod School.
Right to Play
The role of play in children’s physical, mental and social development has been proven to be essential. Recognising that children of construction workers typically have no access to play areas or equipment, Sansiri began distributing Child-Friendly Space Kits to its construction sites. These kits consist of basic learning tools, sports equipment, toys and external medicines. All children have the right to play and an education.
5. Disseminating Information on Safe Zone for Kids
Sansiri received a very positive response to the Safe Zone for Kids project from Prapassorn Property Co., Ltd. who implemented a zone for children at one of their construction sites. The Stock Exchange of Thailand, Siam Cement Plc and KTech Construction Plc all requested to visit and observe the Safe Zone for Kids.
