The Playful Lullaby

If a hotel is compared to art, the South Beach Hotel would be perceived as a fine contemporary work, designed to be a space for both work and play. Connected to Esplanade MRT Station, the South Beach is a hub for business and several kinds of entertainment. Suntec Convention Centre and City Mall, theatres and majestic scenery on the Bay, St. Andrew’s Cathedral, and museums such as National Gallery Singapore are within walking distance from the hotel. As a part of South Beach’s mega mixed use, many retail shops and eateries under development are spreading around the hotel and the liveliness will definitely increase in the near future

Going up to the room, I was entrapped by an impish light design inside a lift. Using three colours of light to change pictures on the wall was very tricky but entertaining! The playful interior continues in private spaces, although toned down with white, beige, black, and wooden furniture and decorations. The bathroom is another highlight. The high technology of sanitary wares such as modern, automatic-flush toilet were employed, and I really love having a gently pouring rain-shower while listening to favourite songs from my mobile playlist on the bathroom’s secluded surround sound.

ADHD (All Day Hotel Dining) is the place to start the day. International breakfast buffet is served here in an unwinding atmosphere and hosted by attentive staff. Be cheerful with a cute change in your cup of tea – some days you may get a giraffe or a puppy cup instead of a plain white one. A few more steps to the next option, LAUGH opens from lunch to offer more vividness. The coffee shop by day turns into a cocktail bar by sunset. For just drinks, PREFIX just behind a lobby is prepared to serve your thirst with a nice cup of tea or a pint of beer.

The panoramic view from the Sky Garden was one of my favourite places during my trip to Singapore. Since it is also the place for Infinity swimming pools, the perfect combination of light wind, cool water and majestic scenery is only in your reach. For someone who is too lazy to change into swimwear like me, sunken chairs are most satisfying – you can dip your feet in the water!
