4 SEPTEMBER 2016 – REGATA STORICA

Founded in 1954, the oldest oyster festival in the world is held to celebrate Galway’s rich annual oyster harvest with Irish food, top class entertainment, street parades, seafood trails, flowing champagne and of course, rich, creamy Irish stout. The local molluscs are left to grow for three years in the clean waters of Brandon Bay and Clarenbridge, blooming into a juicy delicacy.

Building on London’s existing design activity, the event’s concept was to create an annual event that would promote the city’s creativity, drawing in the country’s greatest thinkers, practitioners, retailers and educators to a deliver an unmissable celebration of design. The mood throughout the festival tends to be relaxed, friendly and open, with participants from around the world united in a desire to promote the history, present and future of design.

Although beer plays a vital role in this festival, as well as in German life, it’s  not the whole story pf Oktoberfest. Founded in 1810, Oktoberfest celebrated the marriage of the Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese with a horse race. Later, the festival has become world famous and steeped in other traditions. Besides beer, food and music which are the champions of the event, Bavarian brass bands make things more impressive.

Started 25 years ago in the coastal town, this eco-marine festival celebrates the migration of Southern Right Whales and other marine wildlife with ocean-themed activities and exhibitions, emphasising education and environmentally responsible adventures and activities. The Whales are always the star performers joined on land by great food, quality crafters, great sport events, coaching clinic, kids entertainment, a Music stage with over 20 artists.
