The Hotel Le Royal is the legend, welcoming its first guests in 1929, and has become an artistic statement of Khmer, Art Deco and French style. The hotel’s natural heritage is presented by high painted ceilings, cool black and white tiled floors, a dark teak staircase, decorative beaten copper crests and outdoor sculptures. Meanwhile, a central private courtyard surrounded by frangipani-lined tropical gardens makes a vibe of a cosy stay.

The hotel’s three-wing building – set around two swimming pools– offers 175 spacious rooms, apartments and suites. In the original heritage building, the Landmark Rooms with high ceilings and historic bathrooms, complete with original claw-foot baths, give a feeling of yesteryear. Landmark Suites have one king or twin bedroom and a spacious living room decorated with original antiques and artwork. They can also connect with a Landmark Twin Room for large families.

The State Rooms, instead, are located in the extension wing. They still have the same colonial charm but with modern comforts. The larger Colonial Suites, with their larger living areas and a large writing desk, are perfect for the business traveller. For an extended stay, our Executive Suites offer a separate living room and with a kitchen – specially, with monthly rates. All rooms are tastefully appointed with Art Deco-style furnishings and Cambodian objects d’ art, showcasing Cambodian charm and elegance.

I would like to nominate the Hotel Le Royal as one of excellent dining destinations –for its unique atmosphere and setting in each restaurant. Cambodian cuisine looks like a core of the Le Royal experience, combined with dishes from around the world. The main Restaurant Le Royal is one of the last restaurants in the world that serves Royal Khmer and modern western cuisine with signature gueridon service. Meanwhile, a relaxed colonial Café Monivong with the option of outdoor terrace dining caters an extensive breakfast buffet and international dinner.

A visit to Phnom Penh is not complete without a visit to the famous Elephant Bar. Then, enjoy a full range of wines, beers, spirits and the signature Femme Fatale. Other spots to sit and sip include The Writer’s Bar and Poolside Terrace.

First, I love a full 24-hour Butler Service which is so helpful. Second, I’m fond of the ambience in the evening when candles were flickering and gentle live music drifted through the hotel. And, third, I haven’t tried a signature traditional Khmer Massage in the spa yet!
