Central Marketing Group Co Ltd, the official distributor of Casio G-SHOCK Thailand, unveils the new Full Metal 5000 Series collection: a brand new, specially crafted all-metal timepiece to commemorate 35 years of G-SHOCK. Inspired by the original 1983 ORIGINS design with its square-shaped bezel and brick pattern face, this upgraded 5000 series watch boasts a street luxury design with modern, lustrous, full stainless steel housing, while maintaining a vintage aesthetic that nods to G-SHOCK’s ORIGINS. Three featured colourways of this premier collection include the GMWB5000D-1 (Silver Edition) in silver and the GMW5000TFG-9 (Gold Limited Edition) in gold and the GMW-B5000TFG-9 (Porter Limited Edition) in black.
The launch event hosted at The Piano Hall, Central Chidlom marks the 35th anniversary of G-SHOCK with a special tribute to the iconic square-faced models of the brand’s origin. The star-studded event featured Mr. Koji Shinjo, Managing Director of CASIO MARKETING (Thailand) and Mr. Viroj Sukpitak, Senior Vice President of Casio & Hardline, and special guest, Mr. Pok Chirathivat who shared a walk down memory lane through G-SHOCK ORIGINS’ unbreakable innovations and successes.
Exclusively for Thailand, the event will feature a collection of over hard-to-find G-SHOCK ORIGINS archive pieces from Japan, which bring back memories of where it all began with Mr. Kikuo Ibe’s ambition to develop the very first G-SHOCK – a timepiece with shock resistance innovation that cannot be destroyed, unlike anything else on the market back then.
“I want to make a timepiece that will not break, even if dropped”, the challenge that engineer Kikuo Ibe was tasked 35 years back. A simple yet near impossible idea for a delicate precision instrument like a watch. Ibe engineered through his trials and errors. On the verge of giving up, he took a breath outside the window and saw a child bouncing a rubber ball which sparked a legendary eureka moment. The ball inspired Ibe to design a watch with a unique structure in which the module at the heart of the watch floats in the air within a hollow structure inside the case that allowed for shock-absorbing properties that is the origin of all G-SHOCK watches today.
Since the launch of the first ORIGINS in 1983, G-SHOCK ORIGINS watches have continued its popularity with the iconic square-shaped façade that represents the true heritage of the brand. Through 35 years of innovation, G-SHOCK’s square-shaped ORIGINS chronicle continues to evolve while maintaining its iconic shock-resistant characteristics and four core brand DNAs – Structure, Function, Material and Design.
- Structure – Hollow case structure with shock-absorbent characteristics and iconic square-shaped design
- Function – Various functions that assures practicality under any circumstances from LED backlighting, solar energy, radio control, sport mode and temperature resistance through rain and shine
- Design – Outstanding design with innovative colour combination from urethane resin to EL backlight to suit every style and occasion
- Quality – Top of the line quality for versatile usage from outdoor activities to everyday use
Throughout the years, G-Shock holds true to its top-of-the-line standard with the use of high quality materials and construction, from the original resin band, to this new edition of the first ‘Full Metal’ stainless steel edition today. In addition, new G-SHOCK watches are equipped with functionalities that have developed over the years to further enhance the versatility of the timepieces, such as LED backlighting, solar energy, radio control, sport mode, temperature resistance and smartphone connectivity function. The new GMW-B5000 nods to the heritage of the classic G-SHOCK ORIGINS whilst pushing new boundaries – from its materials to the construction and features. The outer components, including the watch band, case, and bezel, are made entirely from stainless steel that gives a timeless street luxury feel. The watch also employs a new shock-resistant construction made possible with the use of a highly durable fine resin insert between the stainless steel case and bezel to absorb shock.
The GMW-B5000 watch keeps accurate time anywhere in the world using the Connected Engine, which connects to a time server via a paired smartphone, and radio wave time-calibration signals. The watch connects to the G-SHOCK Connected smartphone app to easily operate and change watch options such as world times and alarms that can be used everywhere around the world.
The GMW-B5000TFG-9 (Gold Limited Edition) is a special edition watch created to mark the 35th anniversary of G-SHOCK, with a gold ion plating treatment, the G-SHOCK 35th anniversary logo inscribed on the back case, and a commemorative package.
