To escape everyday life and to retrieve my inner balance back, I found myself at the right place upon my first step at Away Koh Kood.
SETTING THE SCENE
After hours of travelling all the way from Bangkok, here I was, at the pier of Away Koh Kood. My weariness didn’t mean a thing when I realised the land fraught with serenity was eventually in sight. Nestled snugly on the idyllic side of Koh Kood, Away Koh Kood offers the top-drawer experience of equanimity and privacy. Without needing to be extravagant, the charming modesty of the resort blends in with surrounding pristine nature, which brings the coastal hideaway to life, where we don’t need too much of anything. Just a morning on a beachfront swing can make the difference to our sound state of mind.
This four-starred retreat comes with 10 Deluxe Oceanfront Bungalows, 10 Deluxe Ocean Facing Bungalows, together with 10 new and chic Duplex Bungalows. The perk of having limited places in form of separate bungalows is a guarantee for quietude and privacy, and I absolutely loved it.
I spent my nights in a privileged Deluxe Oceanfront Bungalow, allowing me to just lounge with a mesmerising view right at the cottage, whether from the bed or the porch. Luckily I brought my favourite book with me, so I spent a good amount of time tranquilly reading in this mollifying surrounding. And, when I wanted to get closer to the sea, with just less-than-a-minute walk, shoreline wooden canopies welcomed me to lie down and watch the carefree clouds gently move through the bluest skies.
Inside, the air-conditioned room is spacious and well facilitated with beach essentials. The bungalow could comfortably accommodate up to four people, so it is definitely friendly for friends, families, and couples.
Apart from the unbeatable location, Away Koh Kood provides guests with tantalising activities. It’s hard to pick just one when there were kayaks, paddleboards, and a private boat. With the sight of dazzling sundown, I unhesitantly rowed out a kayak to get closer to the horizon where the blue canvas of the sky was tinted with pink, and it became
an evening to remember.
To discover more of this island, Away Koh Kood can arrange a private tour, taking guests to the waterfall, to dive down into the stunning dive site, to visit a fisherman’s village, and even to go fishing like a pro!
The main outlet here is Escape Restaurant, overlooking the balmy beach. Not just that the view is painted with shades of blue, the food at Escape will leave indelible tastes in your mouth. Serving both Thai and Western dishes, I highly recommend trying both styles of cuisine. The recipes are rather traditional, creating full-flavoured foods to savour with the tropical sea breeze. Thanks to fresh seafood on site, Thai dishes like Deep-fried Fish with Fresh Chilli or Stir-fried Shrimp with Dried Chilli go amazingly with steamed rice.
Another spot to mingle is Castaway Bar overlooking the undisturbed shore, where cooling drinks are served. This full bar could sparkle your night with sensational cocktails – classics and signatures.
WHY I’D RETURN
Three days and two nights spent at Away Koh Kood were so amusing and worry-free, and everything I needed was there. Next time, when I feel drained from the busy city, I, without a doubt, know where to rejuvenate my soul.
ONE OR TWO QUIBBLES…
As one of the first resorts on untouched Koh Kood, inside of the Deluxe Bungalows could be somewhat aged, especially in the bathroom. As tap water is a rare resource on any island, Koh Kood is not an exception. A number of bottled waters are provided in the room in case guests are not familiar with seasonal groundwater.
