SETTING THE SCENE
‘A place to hide away’ was the first explanation for Dream Phuket Hotel that came to mind. All the buildings framed a long swimming pool in the centre to make the hotel secluded from the outside. The exterior is in a Béton-brut or raw-concrete style, feeling a bit cooler in Thailand’s hot weather.
Some floors are covered by ‘green’ walls to give natural shade. The pool and surrounding spaces are not very wide, but they are airy as all the buildings are low-rise. By the pool, there is always music from around the ’90s onwards playing which makes the atmosphere more unwinding.
Minimalists would love the white-and-beige bedroom which is contrasting the dark-coloured furniture to create a tidy look but not in the old-fashioned way. A slightly smaller room with a semi-open bathroom serves a plain look – yet with a little gimmick such as private pool on the balcony on the ground floor.
Unlike the shared spaces, the private spaces were as calm as the surrounding village. A veranda with a village view was exceptionally serene. For deeper calmness, Dream Sanctuary on the basement floor offers you salon and several spa treatments as well.
Even though the resort is not located on the beachfront, you can take a shuttle bus to the Dream Beach where you can lay back by the pool and the sea at the same time.
I started my day with terrace dining at Trilogy. Modern Thai, Tuscan or European cuisines are served here, along with its signature juicy Wagyu beef burger topped with foie gras and a gold leaf bun. Moving closer to the sea, the splendid Sunday brunch is waiting for you beside a majestic view of Layan beach at Dream Beach.
Sunset is always a moment to remember, and VU Rooftop Bar can escort you from a romantic dinner to a fun BBQ party by the rooftop pool. While Indulge Wine Bar, contrasting to its very masculine look, had my favourite light bite – crunchy biscuit with delicate homemade dips.
WHY I’D RETURN
The place is good and the food is great but the most impressive reason for me is the service. Every staff member is friendly and caring. Questions and enquiries were answered in a short time with appreciable cooperation within the staff team. Moreover, warm greetings with smiles every time you walked by also made every day during the stay.
