A Kabuki-Theme Room in Kyoto

Kyoto, former capital of Japan, is the destination for travellers who want to explore ancient Japan. Traces of its noble and glorious past permeate the city, in the air that blows through it and in the historical landmarks and ancient residences lined up along serene streets. Kyoto, renowned not only for being home to thousands of ancient Imperial palaces, Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples, is also the birthplace of Kabuki the unique Japanese theatre, and it is this tradition that inspired the décor at Hotel Gracery Kyoto Sanjo North.

Nestled within the Teramachi Kyogoku shopping arcade, the just recently opened 97-guestroom hotel provides a convenient base for visiting many of the city’s attractions. It also provides a welcome respite after a long day of activities, with its serene lobby with traditional half-timbered walls and chequered Japanese ceiling that is welcoming and calming.

The standard en suite guestrooms are snug, with double-bed and typically small set of necessary amenities. They reflect the Japanese philosophy of simplicity and sufficiency which is intrinsic in the local culture and one finds the room pleasant to stay in, albeit snug.

The unique Kabuki-theme guestroom, designed to honour the city’s 500-year-old theatre tradition, is not so different in size to the standard guestrooms. Its décor, however, will transport guests straight to the world of Kabuki theatre with vibrantly coloured walls and intricate prints on its ceiling, together with back-stage furniture and privileged amenities.  Its exoticism will tickle your senses.

At ‘Bon Salute’ the restaurant, guests can enjoy an alternative to Japanese cuisine with the selection of French- and Italian- inspired dishes here. True to its name, all dishes served are nourishing for both body and mind and, if you’re lucky, they may also offer Japanese sushi and sashimi on one of the days you are there.

Whether you are in Kyoto for business or pleasure you are certain to become exhausted from your activities and, at the end of the day, you’ll be pleased to stay at the cosy and reliable Hotel Gracery Kyoto Sanjo North. It has all you need including convenience of location, a concierge service and moderate room rates, and you’ll get back home with a pocketful of very satisfying memories.
